Garmento, presented by Material ConneXion® , wins 2010 ICFF Editors Award
for Best Material

New York, NY, May 20, 2010 – Garmento, a material presented by global materials consultancy Material ConneXion at the 2010 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), has won the 2010 ICFF Editors Award for best material. The rigid, lightweight, solid panel made from recycled denim, was one of 16 recipients of awards bestowed in different categories for design distinction at ICFF, North America’s singular showcase for contemporary design.

Garmento (MC#6575-01) is made from 100% cotton, post-consumer, recycled denim fabric that is cut in to small pieces and mixed with a PMDI (non-formaldehyde) adhesive. It is then put into a pressing machine at high temperature, trimmed, and finished.

The boards can be made from other fabrics as well (i.e. 100% polyester knitted fabric). Colors and textures can be varied depending on the types of recycled fabrics used. These boards are flame-retardant, water-resistant and are comparable in terms of quality to standard particle board.

The panels are currently available as 300 x 300 mm (30 x 30 cm) panels at thicknesses of 6, 10, 15, 20, and 25 mm (0.6, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 cm), with different sizes soon to be made available. Applications are for wall panels, furniture, interior design, POP, and accessories.

The ICFF Editors Awards Ceremony took place during the 22nd annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) on May, 16th, 2010, at the ICFF Exhibitors Reception at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. This year's ICFF Editors Awards Committee included Arlene Hirst, Anniina Koivu of Abitare, Jessica Johnson of Azure, Stefano Casciani of Domus, Sam Grawe of Dwell, Gilda Bojardi of Interni, Chantal Hamaide of Intramuros, Susan S.
