December 14, 2017 by Material ConneXion

Here at Material ConneXion, we’re always researching the leading-edge materials that will help you future-proof your business and lead with confidence. Here, we’ve identified the top five materials that our team of specialists and researchers are most excited by, live in our library and database now.

MC # 8192-01 Digital Selective Treatment (DST) technology: A system that selectively digitally dyes and treats a single white thread in a continuous, on-demand, efficient process. This technology uses a waterless dyeing technique to color threads for immediate use and is an alternative to conventional bulk dyeing. Applications include threads and textiles with a focus in apparel, accessories, footwear, bedding, and furniture.

MC # 8691-02 3D AIR HT: A process of creating three-dimensional effects and textures onto textiles through the use of heat transfer printing technology. The volume effect is created through a multi-layer transfer where patterns, logos, and colors can be fully customized. Applications include apparel, footwear, upholstery, and wallcoverings.

MC # 8690-01 Pliashell: A new class of malleable polymers and systems used to enable the efficient manufacturing of fully recyclable advanced composite materials. The novel material is an intrinsically recyclable thermoset plastic that can be molded and reshaped at relatively mild temperatures. Applications include sporting goods such as protective equipment that can be custom molded for optimal fit.

MC # 8002-01 Tipa: High transparency, printable, and sealable compostable film for packaging applications. The film has up to 30% bio-based content and is 100% compostable in both industrial and home composting facilities. Applications include packaging for confectionery, chocolate, grains, coffee/tea pod bags, fruits and vegetables.

MC # 8589-03 ATACAMA FLOW: The world’s first ‘biomimetic,’ high-performance, moisture-channeling platform for apparel that manipulates sweat into ‘channels’ in the fabric using advanced microfluidics, resulting in completely dry, lightweight clothing, even during intense workout sessions. The technology can be applied to cotton, polyester, nylon, or merino wool. Applications for moisture management for apparel.
