Fluorescent refers to a pigment that converts wavelengths outside the visible spectrum—such as ultraviolet light—into visible light, resulting in brilliant hues, as well as glowing effects. When fluorescent pigments are no longer exposed to this stimulant, they will stop fluorescing immediately, unlike phosphorescence, which will continue to fluoresce after the end of exposure. Fluorescent pigments are often found in lightbulbs, fabrics, and paint.
