FibriTech is a fibrous, lightweight bio-composite made from renewable organic resources.
FibriTech materials have around 90% cellulose or lignocellulose fibers from sources like hemp, flax, wood and 10% organic additives for the binder such as starch or chitosan.
The company developed a unique process to form the network of fibers in 3-dimensional space to create natural bonds between fibers without using external pressure.
This technology makes it possible to manufacture new, versatile 3D fibrous shapes.
Another reason we like this process is because it’s possible to use both waste and recycled fibers which extends the potential feedstock materials.
There are numerous ways to customize this technology to create innovative forms. The density can be controlled across the structure to achieve a gradient of different densities in one form. The material can be impregnated to create functional composites and can be controlled to create a stronger outside and a softer inside depending on the application needs.
While the technology was developed initially as a biodegradable, soilless substrates because of its favorable properties for both plants and soilless farming systems, other possible applications are thermal and sound insulators, air filters, and even packaging.
