MC 1097301 / WEGANOOL by Faborg is a 100% plant-based wool alternative that is sustainable at every stage of its life-cycle – from production and processing to ultimate disposal adhering to cradle-to-cradle standards such as chemical free, zero-waste, biodegradation, fair trade, and cruelty-free standards.
The fiber is typically blended with other natural fibers such as organic rain-fed cotton to achieve the desired hand feel and performance. Because no water is needed to grow these crops they save an average of 27,000L of water per kilogram.
These fibers are wild foraged and extracted from the local medicinal plant that grows on barren lands.
The plants do not require water, pesticides or care during growth. They produce unique hollow cellulose fibers similar to hollow protein fibers of the finest cashmere. The hollowness of these fibers creates air pockets within the fabric, making it lightweight and also offering thermal-regulating properties, but unlike wool, it does not shrink with every wash and does not cause allergies due to its cellulosic origin.
In addition, it also offers natural antimicrobial properties towards common Staph bacteria.
In an effort to maintain a completely sustainable material, the company’s manufacturing process is also waste free. The fibers are dyed with natural plant materials using cutting edge dyeing techniques. And there are no chemicals used during spinning or finishing. All colorants and auxiliaries are made from natural sources which are completely bio-degradable. Even the residue of these fibers is converted into a multipurpose natural fertilizer and insect repellent.
Once the fibers are dyed, they are spun into yarn which can be used in both knit and woven textiles for apparel and accessories.
