Material Sessions: On Demand
Material Sessions is an exciting new series dedicated to trends and topics that shape the material world. Each session provides an in-depth look at current and future trends in material science.
In addition to the recorded session, you’ll gain access to transcripts, material briefings, and links to additional resources!
Day 1 / Bundle 1:
An overview of packaging and the role it plays, the multilayer challenge, paper vs. plastic discussion, and some current alternatives.
Textiles: Back to the Future
We take a look at digital manufacturing, new performance treatments, the future of textiles, color and pattern, and sustainability.
Designing for the New Clean
The pandemic has brought unique concerns and challenges to the surface. We discuss new technologies and consider the implications of an overly clean world.
Dr. Dent encourages us to rethink waste. What is waste really? We’ll find that waste has enormous potential and value when seen through a new lens.
Day 2 / Bundle 2:
Bioplastics: The (Not So) Basics
We examine single use bioplastics, durables and elastomers, as well as water-solubles. What are the benefits to these ‘green’ plastics?
A Circular Approach to Design
Here we discuss the important role designers play within a circular economy – and how it may change moving forward. Current successes and areas of interest are shared.
Bio-built: Algae, Fungi, and Bacteria
The natural world is ripe with material that is not only sustainable, but versatile as well. We discuss biomaterials and showcase some standouts.
Hard as Nails: Glass, Ceramics, and Metals
Taking a look at innovations within the more traditional, durable, and man-made materials. How might these innovations play a part in sustainability and circularity?
“…they were so worth [it]. I came away with some great new solutions to current projects…”
Corey S. from Stephen Gould
More than a virtual seminar… each session provides access to the session and Q&A with Dr. Andrew Dent, associated resource downloads including audio file and material data sheets, as well as links to additional resources.
Do I have to be a member to register and attend?
No. Material Sessions is open to the public.
Will the sessions be recorded?
Yes. All sessions and Q&As will be available for replay after October 30th.
Can I buy just one session?
We designed these sessions to be accessible to everyone. You may choose to purchase one single session, one full day, or both days (all 8 sessions).
